Reasons to love Italia:
the weather is phenomenal
the paninos are jammed full with prosciutto and the pizzas and focaccias are not like elsewhere
the women are bubbly and effervescent as the Italians they talk with their hands
and well the men look damn swish in their suits and overcoats which they fashion even in shoulder season
... oh and for soccer fans there's a little thing called Serie A!
In Rome at the Colosseum there are busts of all the greats like Ptolemy and Democritus. In Florence seeing Galileo's makeshift telescope, compass and clock made the hairs stand up, the people remembered here are not the merchants (well ok the Medici family) but the artists, scientists, shoe makers, architects. Aesthetics plays so much higher than at home
Milan is my favourite part, free thinking, young and a cool night life. The business people here tend to dress a bit more liberally than at home which is refreshing, mixing up their suits, jackets and overcoats, and the city has the San Siro the famous soccer stadium which hosts AC Milan and Internazionale (together ten Euro Champions League trophies). The fashion outlets have some very clever and beautiful ways of displaying their stock, and the food is outstanding and cheap
The Toscana country side showed me what beautifully simple food actually is and a couple of nights there would rate among the favourite of this trip. After so many cigarettes and beers early on in Italy I decided to go running through the Tuscan countryside and boy was it worth it!
Met many different characters along the way and shared meals with new friends including Matteo my Argentinian buddy... wake and bake!!!
