I still dream about the fluffy bed doona and pillow at the Tattva hostel in Porto, and the hearty soup cooked by "mum" each night at Lisbon Central
Porto has an incredible charm and rates among my favourite cities, for its grittiness and beauty and chilled out people. It is about as flat as the himalaya however conveniently small enough to get around on foot. Highlights included the Duoro region port wines, cracking nightlife and of course the famous cod. The local favourite dish Francesinha is a heart attack on a plate but I'm still here!
Lisbon is likewise a clearly beautiful city with its mosaic footpaths, tiled terrace fronts and tiny wooden trams. Highlights included traditional Portugese music Fado, walking the hilly streets for views of the city from several vantage points, catching some of that cool Atlantic breeze on the way to Belem, day trip to Sintra, eating the famous Portugese custard tarts and other pastries, and of course seeing the Benfica fans go nuts covering monuments with flags and scarves, and letting off fire crackers and flares, with crazy horns after the final of the Taça da Liga (the Portugese FA Cup)
