it is such a small and cute and naturally beautiful city, like a paradise. wonderful natural surroundings, within the city is park tivoli and nearby lakes bled and bohinj which were perfect on a sunny afternoon in good ccompany, it feels like the tasmania of europe in that sense!! the central part of the city is car free however does offer buggies to drive people around for free. lots of university students here, including on erasmus, so the city feels young fun and international, and education is free which means more money to party!!!
the castle was magnificeent, and there are plenty of cool cafe around the picturesqque river. bars to hang out in the evening. we had some a few big nights, with my new belgium friends diego and tim. metelkova nightlife was a highlight with a grungy feel and aa whole spectrum of music on offer with a lingering waft of weed in the air
now getting from ljubljana to venice was made difficult because of stupidly ignoring my alarm, to make the trip by train was complicated because it involved a few stops, bus connections due to track work and other local buses in italy, plus it was pouring rain that day. on the other hand there was a direct bus which is way easier and cost effective but only one each day early in the morning. after runnning 15 minutes to the train station from my hostel in my jeans and the rain by the time it was my turn to buy a ticket, the lady at the ticket register asked whether i was sure i wanted to buy a ticket because THAT (she pointed at a bus driving up the street) was my bus to venice. i said yes yes yes and quickly bolted up the street, it took me a few hundred metres and two sets of traffic lights before basically jumping in front of the bus at a pedestriaan crossing, whereupon the bus driver let me on in my drenched shirt but only with a complete look of shock and disdain. a few minutes later they told me to get off the bus and i thought 'wtf come on i thought i won', but it was only to change into a more comfortable van, and by the afternoon there i was in venice!! phew!!!
